Talking Stick - SPEAK SOFTLY
Speak Softly, Speak True, Speak From The Heart
How wonderful that phrase, and how apt for a talking stick.
Cut from beloved willow from our friends own garden, the Speak Softly talking stick varies in length but is generally 12+ inches long and fairly chunky.
The Speak Softly talking stick features the wording as stated, plus it will be decorated around the words, with hearts or leaves or ivy.
The designs are pyrographed to a high standard, and are all hand drawn, so no two will ever be the same.
Once the design is drawn, it is hand painted with a selection of wood stains, giving a depth of colour that other paints cannot match.
The tips of the talking sticks are also decorated.
One end is plain bound, simply wrapped around with thronging, suede or material.
The other end also has binding but it will come with a variety of charms, feathers, bells and whatever else our friends feel decorates the talking stick to perfection.
A talking stick is an amazing tool.
For group sessions, for family discussions, or for anywhere you will need to get your point across verbally, the talking stick is natures perfect silencer!
The idea is this – whomsoever holds the talking stick may speak.
They can speak as long as they hold the talking stick, and nobody else may speak during this time.
No interruptions.
Nothing.
When the speaker is finished, the talking stick is passed to the next person, and they have their say, unchallenged.
So what’s the big deal?
Well, think of all those arguments that have leaped up out of nowhere because someone butted in with comments that were not well thought out and ill-spoken.
The talking stick removes all that, and allows the speaker to speak honestly, calmly and to feel secure that they will not be interrupted.
And by the time any butter-in gets the stick so they can talk, they’re likely to have forgotten what it is they were butting in about in the first place, or will have, at least, had the time to think through their answer and respond calmly.
And these talking sticks are tactile.
