Historically smudging has been practised by various ethnic groups including most famously the Native American Indian tribes. The smudge stick, when lit, will smoulder.
Use a feather or your hand to waft the smoke into the corners of rooms or any space you wish to clear. Incantations etc can be used in conjunction with the smoke.
Concentrate on the corners of rooms allowing the smoke to waft up into them.
Often an Abalone shell is used to rest the smudge stick in whilst moving around the room.
Never leave any smouldering item unattended and always place in a fire proof container. Smudge sticks can usually be used several times -be sure to dowse before puttng them away and just re-light when ready.
